Note: Special this year, thanks to the generosity of the Pocantico Center and in conjunction with their current art exhibit "Portraits of Process," our Week 1 clay campers (July 15-19) will have the opportunity to visit the David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center and meet with the exhibition curators Vanessa Hoheb and Thomas Donahue, get a tour of "Portraits of Process," hold and examine some bronzes and learn about the process of casting, and finally move into the art studio for a demonstration of how the bronze hands are cast – and most excitingly, have their own hands cast in clay.
Each week of Clay Camp is a hands-on opportunity to see the imagination come to life!
Everyone will have a chance on the potter’s wheel to make projects using various methods while learning how to add pattern, texture and glaze. Campers will make pinch pots and use the extruder and slab roller to create bowls, mugs, boxes or other containers. Finished projects go home at the end of the week. Campers grouped by age.
Each week campers will learn hand-building techniques as they make functional and sculptural projects.
SHHS faculty Mary Cincotta and Irvington educator Marisa Micolucci will return for this year's Clay Camp.
