HUDSON VALLEY WRITER'S EXPRESS Creative Writing Camps
July 6-10
9:00-1pm
Time Travelers Tales
$215 res./$230 non-res.

If you could go back in time anywhere in history, where would you go? This camp will transform you back into the olden days– when? That’s up to you! Campers will have the opportunity to learn about how their community started, how what they see today came to be, and transform into fictional characters that might disrupt the status quo.

*Campers will learn about the local history of our villages to inform their writing!

**July 6-10, our musically inclined writers can stay until 3:15pm for our Music Ensemble Camp (Explore our Music atTAC Tab, or info on the home page) 1:15-3:15pm, $160/res, $175/non res

July 20-24

Through movement-based improv games and collaborative writing prompts, we’ll take our original plays from the page to the stage. In this camp, participants will experiment with character motivations, use of props, and scene structure to craft their own original plays. We’ll finish off the week with a performance to showcase for friends and family. New prompts for repeat campers!

New this year!
"Young Journalists" Camp
July 13-17
9:00-3:15pm
$400 res./$415 non-res

In this camp, you'll explore a unique blend of writing and photography.  You'll have the opportunity to work with world-renowned photographer John Rizzo who will explore the techniques of portrait photography, as well as how to conduct an interview.  You'll venture into the heart of Sleepy Hollow to chat with community figures, and capture images that create a representation of our vibrant neighborhood. You'll develop writing with Misty Yarnall inspired by these people and images, and learn how to write captions to accompany those photos.
Our discoveries will be showcased at a mini-exhibit at the end of the week, and incorporated into the “Dear Tarrytown + Sleepy Hollow” display in September at SHHS, an upcoming all-district initiative where students will document and display images of our diverse community.

John Rizzo is also an award-winning photographer and teacher whose work has been published in Newsweek, the New York Times, The Overseas Press Club, Bloomberg, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Fortune and Money Magazine. He has worked on six continents and covers the financial industry worldwide. As a teacher and group leader, he has received seven Artist-in-Residency programs from ArtsWestchester. John Rizzo has 10 years of experience leading tours in Africa and thrives on introducing its wonders to others.
